Tajik president says Palestinian-Israeli conflict has no military solution

Tajikistan believes definitive solution to conflict possible only through implementation of UN resolutions on establishing an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, says Emomali Rahmon

ISTANBUL (AA) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said Tuesday that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has no military solution.

In an address at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Rahmon said the conflict continues to be a matter of deep concern to Tajikistan.

He said his country believes a definitive solution to the conflict is possible only through the implementation of UN resolutions on establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.

“The current tragic situation in this region once again proves that the Palestinian conflict has no military solution,” he said.

Rahmon said they hope the parties will take steps to establish a cease-fire and commence peace talks.

He added that they hope the international community will take “effective measures to restore lasting stability in Palestine.”

Israel has continued a brutal offensive against Gaza since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year which killed nearly 1,200 Israelis, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

According to Gaza health authorities, Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed around 41,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 95,700.

Tensions have also risen between the Lebanese group Hezbollah and Israel amid escalating cross-border attacks and growing fears of a full-scale war in the region.

Rahmon also touched on the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, saying that Tajikistan advocates for the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the country as well as socio-economic development.

"To this end, Tajikistan is always ready to contribute to the revival and development of various spheres of peaceful life in Afghanistan," he said.

He called on the international community to provide assistance to the Afghan people to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the country, including in areas affected by natural disasters.
