ISTANBUL (AA) – Thailand officially concluded its six-week mission on Tuesday to recover the bodies of workers buried beneath the debris of the collapsed State Audit Office (SAO) building, Bangkok Post reported.
"Thank you, everyone," said Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt after leading a memorial for victims of the 30-story building collapse caused by an earthquake in central Myanmar.
Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej said Monday that 296 body parts and bones were recovered and sent to Police General Hospital for DNA testing to identify any of the missing people.
The final day of the operation saw the K-9 units conducting a last sweep of the debris, searching for any remaining signs of people trapped beneath.
Myanmar was hit by a strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, which killed nearly 3,800 and left tens of thousands homeless.
