ANKARA (AA) - The Royal Thai Navy sliced through Bangkok's Chao Phraya River on Thursday as part of a ceremony to mark the end of coronation events for Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn, according to local media.

A total of 16 spots were staged in the city for thousands of people to watch the ceremony, and 52 ceremonial barges and 2,200 oarsmen took part in the procession, news outlet Coconuts Bangkok reported.

The procession of barges -- about 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) long, and 90 meters (295 feet) in width -- travelled for 3.4 kilometers (2.11 miles).

The barge procession provides Thais an opportunity of glimpsing the royal Thai family.

Maha Vajiralongkorn officially ascended to the throne on Dec.1, 2016, 50 days after the death of his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
