Top Chinese, Indonesian diplomats discuss Myanmar, war on Gaza

Foreign ministers meet in Beijing, discuss ways to enhance bilateral ties

The Chinese and Indonesian foreign ministers on Friday discussed the ongoing conflict in Myanmar and Israeli war on Gaza.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterpart Retno Marsudi met in Beijing and also discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties, according to a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Marsudi arrived along with her delegation on Thursday to co-chair the fifth meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Committee Mechanism for Bilateral Cooperation in Beijing.

"The two sides also exchanged views on the Myanmar issue, the Gaza conflict and other issues," it said.

Wang Yi said that the two sides should continue to consolidate strategic mutual trust and firmly support each other in safeguarding core interests.

Marsudi said that Beijing has become one of the Indonesia's most important strategic partner as bilateral trade and investment have grown significantly, fully demonstrating the potential for sustainable development of pragmatic cooperation.

"Indonesia highly values ​​the solid mutual trust and profound friendship established with China," she said, adding her country is willing to work closely with China in multilateral cooperation, and strengthen South-South cooperation.
