Top Russian diplomat discusses settlement of Ukrainian conflict with Brazilian counterpart

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Friday on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial summit in South Africa.

Lavrov briefed Vieira on the results of Tuesday’s Russia-US talks in Saudi Arabia, where this issue was among the topics discussed, according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

The ministry noted that Lavrov urged his Brazilian counterpart to consider the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis in the work of the Friends for Peace Group of the Global South, of which Brazil is a co-founder.

The group was established in May last year as a platform to promote a peace plan to end the ongoing Moscow-Kyiv war, which started in February 2022.

Lavrov and Vieira also discussed bilateral cooperation, including within the BRICS economic bloc chaired by Brazil this year.
