Top US diplomat's visit to China 'disgraceful begging trip,' says North Korean analyst

ANKARA (AA) – A North Korean geopolitical analyst has slammed the US for its failed foreign policy, calling Secretary of State Antony Blinken's current visit to China a "disgraceful begging trip" seeking "relaxation" of deteriorating bilateral ties.

Jong Yong Hak in his latest article published by the state-run Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday, stated that the US failed in its policy of putting pressure on China as Blinken flew to Beijing to "beg for the relaxation" of worsened bilateral ties owing to a fatal blow to its economy and fear of an unprecedented military conflict.

Blinken is the highest-ranking US official to visit the Chinese capital in five years. During his visit, he met with President Xi Jinping and other senior officials.

Relations between the US and China deteriorated during the Trump administration over a trade war and have since remained tense due to Beijing’s assertive claims over Taiwan and an alleged Chinese spy balloon over the US.

"From the first day of its assumption of power, the Biden administration in the grip of repugnancy toward the Chinese government had made the pressure and control in an all-round way the point of its policy towards China, deliberately escalated the confrontation, violated the legal development and interests of the Chinese people and attempted in every way to prevent the prosperity of China," Jong wrote.

It is the pinnacle of the US' double-dealing and impudence to provoke first and then talk about so-called "responsible control over divergence of opinion," he added.

On Monday, President Joe Biden said US-China relations are on the "right trail,” endorsing Blinken’s efforts and saying he did a good job.

However, Jong criticized Washington for escalating tensions in the region, strengthening anti-China complexes such as QUAD and AUKUS, and attempting to establish a new military bloc with Japan and South Korea.

But, at the same time, Washington is talking about communication with China, he added.

"This time, the U.S. secretary of state flew to China to beg for the relaxation of relations, because of the extreme uneasiness that the attempt to press and restrain China may become a boomerang striking a fatal blow to the U.S. economy and that China-U.S. confrontation may trigger off the unprecedented military conflict which can lead to irretrievable disasters," he stated.

Following a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Blinken said Washington urged Beijing to restore military-to-military communications.

“It is absolutely vital that we have these kinds of communications, military-to-military. That imperative was only underscored by recent incidents that we saw in the air and on the sea,” Blinken said at a news conference in Beijing on Monday after two days of high-level diplomatic engagements.

He was referring to recent encounters between Chinese and American air and naval forces in and over the South China Sea.

Last month, Beijing denied the Pentagon's request for a meeting of the countries' defense chiefs in Singapore.

Gen. Li Shangfu and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin attended the 20th Shangri-La Dialogue summit in Singapore, but the duo did not hold a bilateral meeting as China rejected the request.
