Tornadoes across US kill toddler in Michigan, injure 5 in Maryland

ISTANBUL (AA) - A tornado killed a 2-year-old boy and injured his mother on Wednesday when a tree fell on their house in suburban Detroit, while emergency workers in Maryland were responding to reports of collapsed structures with people stranded inside after a tornado hit.
For almost an hour, crews labored to remove the roof and sections of the tree before finally lifting the tree to retrieve the victims, according to ABC News.
A powerful storm produced a tornado that swept across Montgomery County in the US State of Maryland on Wednesday evening, causing damage along a path of at least 45 miles, the NBC news reported.
The long-track tornado caused its most significant damage thus far in a residential neighborhood in Gaithersburg, where it toppled large trees onto houses, trapping residents inside.
According to Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, five people were injured in one home on Dogwood Drive, including one person with traumatic injuries.
Piringer reported widespread power outages and downed wires. Debris is scattered across roadways.
Heavy rain is expected to pass through Philadelphia and reach New York City overnight. By 7 a.m. (1100GMT) Thursday, there may be lingering rain in NYC, with the heavy rain heading into southern New England, the ABC News reported.
Tornado warnings have been issued for other parts of Maryland, including Baltimore County, Harford County, Dundalk, Essex, Rosedale, and Middle River, according to the US National Weather Service (NWS) on its X account.
