ISTANBUL (AA) - US President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he nominated Charles Kushner, a prominent New Jersey businessman, to serve as ambassador to France.
Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, who is a son-in-law of Trump, who served as a senior adviser during his presidency.
"I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the US Ambassador to France," Trump wrote his Truth Social platform.
"He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests," he added.
Kushner is the founder and chairman of Kushner Companies, a privately held real estate firm, and he has held influential roles, including recognition as New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.
He has also been involved in public service, including serving on the US Holocaust Memorial Council and as chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Trump highlighted the longstanding connections between the Kushner family and his administration, noting Jared's close work with Trump in the White House on initiatives like Operation Warp Speed to develop and distribute the coronavirus vaccine, criminal justice reform and the Abraham Accords, which say several Arab nations sign normalization agreements with Israel.
"Together, we will strengthen America's partnership with France, our oldest Ally, & one of our greatest!" Trump added, emphasizing the importance of the US-France relationship.
Trump also extended his congratulations to Kushner's family, including his wife Seryl, their four children and 14 grandchildren.
