Trump shutters personal blog less than 1 month after launch

WASHINGTON (AA) - Former US President Donald Trump ended on Tuesday his ultimately ill-fated attempt to circumvent multiple social media bans, shuttering his personal blog after less than one month.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller told the CNBC television network that the page, formerly known as From the Desk of Donald J. Trump, "will not be returning." It had struggled to gain the traction the former president once wielded with his personal Twitter account.

“It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on," he said in an email exchange with the outlet. "Hoping to have more information on the broader efforts soon, but I do not have a precise awareness of timing."

The page now redirects users to an email signup for future correspondence.

Trump's team had sought to amplify the blog's reach by automatically sending its posts to Twitter, but the microblogging website quickly halted the effort due to the former president's lifetime ban.

The former president had been banned from Twitter and Facebook after he urged his supporters to "stop the steal," and called them "great patriots" in the midst of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the US Capitol.

Lawmakers were convening that day to carry out a constitutionally-mandated process ahead of President Joe Biden's Jan. 20 inauguration. Trump's supporters overran police, and barged their way into the federal legislature, sending lawmakers scrambling and delaying the process to certify election results.

Trump maintains without evidence that the election was stolen from him via widespread voter fraud, claims neither his fellow Republicans in key battleground states nor his Justice Department corroborate.

He has hinted that he may run for office again in 2024.
