Trump signs executive order to boost law enforcement in Washington, D.C

ISTANBUL (AA) – US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday establishing a task force to boost law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

According to the White House, the order’s goal is “to make Washington, D.C what it should be—the pride of every American to whom it belongs.”

The new task force, composed of key government agencies, is focused on enhancing immigration enforcement, clearing homeless encampments, increasing police presence, expediting concealed carry licenses, and cracking down on Metro fare evasion.

The order also establishes a program to restore and beautify federal buildings, monuments, parks, and roadways, remove graffiti, and maintain public spaces.

The task force will include representatives from the Department of the Interior, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Earlier this month, Trump threatened Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, urging her to “clean up all of the unsightly homeless encampments” and warned that he would intervene if she did not address the issue.

In February, Trump called for a federal takeover of the city, claiming that local officials had failed to effectively address crime and homelessness.

Mayor Bowser defended her administration’s approach, emphasizing that collaboration between the city and the federal government remains strong.

Homelessness in Washington, D.C has been a contentious issue in local politics, with encampments growing near government buildings and affecting both residents and visitors.
