ISTANBUL (AA) - US President-elect Donald Trump has named Richard Grenell, a trusted foreign policy adviser and former ambassador to Germany, as his envoy for “special missions.”

Trump announced the appointment Saturday on his Truth Social platform.

"Ric will work in some of the hottest spots around the world, including Venezuela and North Korea," he said.

Grenell previously served as the acting director of national intelligence and played a pivotal role in Serbia-Kosovo peace negotiations during Trump’s first term.

A staunch advocate of Trump’s foreign policy approach, Grenell has supported limiting NATO expansion until member nations meet defense spending targets, aligning with Trump’s stance that the alliance should prioritize "fair contributions."

Grenell’s work with Arab American voters in swing states, like Michigan, also showcased his ability to navigate sensitive political dynamics.

"What we’re saying is, don’t come to the wedding without a gift," Grenell said, defending Trump’s calls for NATO members to meet financial obligations.

In the same announcement, Trump revealed that Devin Nunes, CEO of Truth Social and a former congressman, will lead a presidential advisory board overseeing the US intelligence community.

Nunes, a loyal Trump ally, will continue his role at Trump Media & Technology Group.
