WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Donald Trump said Friday that he would discuss his recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Kyiv’s request to purchase American long-range Tomahawk missiles, during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
"We'll be talking about what took place yesterday with my phone call with President Putin, and I think that things are coming along pretty well," Trump told reporters at the White House, alongside Zelenskyy.
"President Zelenskyy of Ukraine has endured a lot ... and we've endured it with him, to be honest, it's been a long time, and I think we're making great progress. So we're going to be talking about that today," he said.
Trump added that they would be talking about the possibilty of sending Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, but that "hopefully, they won't need it."
"Hopefully we'll be able to get the war over with without thinking about tomahawks. I think we're fairly close to that," he said.
