Turkey commits to market economy
Deputy PM confident country will have ‘stronger democracy, better functioning market economy & enhanced investment climate’
ANKARA (AA) – Turkey is “committed to market economy”, the country’s deputy prime minister said Thursday.
"Life of ordinary people and businesses will go unaffected, uninterrupted, business will be as usual. We're committed to a market economy," Mehmet Simsek tweeted.
Simsek's comments came after Turkey announced Wednesday a nationwide three-month state of emergency after a failed coup that caused the martyrdom of hundreds and injured more than 1,500 others last week.
"It won't be any different from those imposed by our European partners in France, in Germany and in Belgium after relatively smaller scale threats," Simsek said.
"I'm confident Turkey will come out of this with much stronger democracy, better functioning market economy & enhanced investment climate," he added on Twitter.
Simsek said Turkey remains committed to fighting international terrorism, including Daesh.
"State of emergency won't hinder the war on terror,” he said.
