Ankara expresses solidarity with the people and government of Iraq

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Monday "strongly" condemned the twin suicide bombings in the Iraqi capital Baghdad that killed at least 25 people.
"We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist attack and convey our condolences to the friendly and brotherly people of Iraq, [we] wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and speedy recovery to the wounded," said a Foreign Ministry statement.
At least 25 people were killed and more than 90 others injured in the attack at Tayaran Square in the city center, Ahmed Khalaf, a police captain, told Anadolu Agency.
Ankara further expressed solidarity with the people and the government of Iraq and added: "Turkey will continue to be in full solidarity with the people and government of Iraq in the fight against terrorism."
In recent months, devastating bombings -- often featuring explosive-laden vehicles -- have become commonplace in Iraq’s violence-prone capital.
The Iraqi authorities typically blame such attacks, which frequently target civilian areas, on the Daesh terrorist group, which captured large swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq in 2014.
