Turkey: Measures taken against false COVID-19 info

COVID-19 patients providing false or missing information on their physical contacts might serve in prison, pay fine

ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish Interior Ministry on Thursday issued a new notice bringing judicial measures for those providing false or missing information on their COVID-19 contacts.

According to the notice, if COVID-19 patients provide health authorities with false or missing information on whom they had physical contact with, they might receive up to two years of prison sentence or judicial fine.

Turkey has so far reported 7,711 fatalities due to the coronavirus and more than 308,000 infections. In addition, over 270,000 people recovered from the virus.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed over 977,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December.

The US, India, and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 31.92 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 22 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
