KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – Turkish charities have distributed meat of sacrificed livestock to around 360,000 families in Sudan during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
"[Turkey] slaughtered 9,000 calves in Khartoum and other Sudanese cities, including Nyala, al-Fashir, Dilling, Kadugli, Port Sudan, Kassala, al-Qadarif, Midlaj, Sennar and Suakin,” the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum said on Twitter.
The embassy said the meat assistance was donated by the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation, the Turkish Red Crescent and other Turkish aid agencies.
The Turkish aid and benevolent agencies provide different forms of assistances to poor families worldwide, especially during religious occasions and festivals.
On Eid al-Adha, one of the two main Muslim holidays, people who can afford to slaughter an animal do so and distribute most of the meat to the needy, neighbors and relatives.
Relations between Ankara and Khartoum have greatly developed in the past two decades.
