Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close
BIST 100 index closes 0.11 pct lower; Turkish lira gains value against US dollar
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index fell 88.95 points to close at 77,589.65 on Friday.
On the last trading day of the week, the BIST 100 index decreased 0.11 percent, while the banking and holding sector indices declined 0.76 and 0.78 percent, respectively. The total trading volume of the country's stock exchange market was 3.1 billion Turkish liras (approximately $884.56 million).
Among sector indices, the construction sector index rose the most – 1.56 percent – while the mining sector declined the most, 2.70 percent.
The most heavily traded stocks were private lender Garanti Bank, cement producer Afyon Cimento, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, state lender Halkbank, and private lender Akbank.
Shares of Afyon Cimento were the top percent gainer, rising 4.26 percent in value, while gold miner Koza Altın saw the biggest drop, 3.57 percent.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index rose 0.44 percent in value, with gold trading at 128,400 Turkish liras ($36,638) per kilogram.
The Turkish lira gained value against the U.S. dollar to trade at 3.5030 at 5 p.m. (1400GMT) on Friday, compared to 3.5130 at Thursday close.
