Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down in opening session

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark index started the day with a 208.73-point decrease to stand at 95,114.65 points on Wednesday.

On the third transaction day of the week, the BIST-100 index fell by 0.22 percent.

The banking sector index dropped 0.32 percent, while the holding index fell 0.45 percent.

Among all sectors, the construction sector was the best performer with a 0.96 percent rise, while the information technology sector started the day with the biggest decline, falling 0.93 percent.

Tuesday's closing session hit an all-time high at close as the BIST-100 index exceeded 95,000 points, which analysts described as resistance to intense buying in banking sector shares and positive progress in European stock markets.

On Tuesday, Turkey’s benchmark index closed the day with a 1,490.68-point hike to reach its all-time record high of 95,323.38 points.

Analysts indicated that share-based activities may become prominent and activities on foreign exchanges may influence markets due to balance terms.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 3.6060 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Wednesday compared to Tuesday evening, when the dollar/lira exchange rate tallied 3.5920.
