Turkey's Borsa Istanbul ends week down

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Friday at 96,454.57 points, down 1.03 percent.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 999.39 points from Thursday's close of 97,453.96 points, while it started the day at 97,819.88 points.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.6450 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Friday, up from 5.5820 at the close on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Turkish lira gained around 5 percent in value against the U.S. dollar, the exchange rate down to 5.64 from 5.93 at last week's close.

One euro traded for 6.4890 Turkish liras at close, up from 6.4210 at Thursday's close.

By market close, the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.3670, versus 7.3200 at the previous close.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,230.00, up from Thursday's close of $1,224.00.

As of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the price of Brent oil rose to $80.47 per barrel, compared with $79.59 at Thursday's close.
