Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at open
Turkish markets flat at open amid calm of Christmas and New Year's holidays in many global markets
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index opens the day with just a meager decline of 11.68 points as markets in world are calm at the end of year on Wednesday.
The BIST 100 inched down 0.02 percent to open at 76,687.74 points in first minutes of the trading day Wednesday.
Turkish markets are calm in line with global markets, as many market investors are enjoying the New Year's and Christmas holiday and others are wary of taking positions in shallow markets.
On Tuesday the BIST 100 index fell 0.43 percent, and the total trading volume of the benchmark index hovered around 1.5 billion Turkish liras (approx. $426 million).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to stand at 3.5270 as of 10.00 a.m. (0700GMT) Wednesday, compared to 3.5240 in Tuesday’s closing session.
