Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at opening

BIST 100 index falls by 60.86 points or 0.07 percent

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index fell 60.86 points to open at 89,550.55 on Monday.

On the first trading day of the week, the BIST 100 stock exchange declined by 0.07 percent.

The banking index went up 0.06 percent while the holding sector index decreased 0.26 percent.

Among the sub-indices, the construction sector showed the greatest increase -- up 0.91 percent in initial transactions -- while the sports index started the day with the biggest decline, falling 0.66 percent.

At Friday's closing session, the benchmark index was up 0.68 percent -- increasing 608.84 points -- to 89,611.40 points with a total trading volume of 3.3 billion Turkish liras ($883 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.7470 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Monday, compared with 3.7320 at Thursday's close.

Gold held at $1,207.84 an ounce.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s current account deficit stood at $2.76 billion in January, an increase from a $561 million surplus in the same month of 2016, the country’s Central Bank said Monday.
