Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at opening
BIST 100 index opens 0.10 percent lower; US dollar/Turkish lira rate below 3.60
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index fell by 92.04 points to open at 90,290.67 points on Monday.
On the first trading day of the week, the BIST 100 stock exchange declined by 0.10 percent.
The banking sector index decreased by 0.21 percent while the holding sector rose by 0.10 percent.
Among the sub-indexes, the textile and leather sector showed the greatest increase -- up by 1.14 percent in initial transactions -- while the real estate investment trusts index started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.77 percent.
At Friday's closing session, the benchmark index was up by 0.69 percent to 90,382.71 points with a total trading volume of 3.1 billion Turkish liras ($855 million).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate started the week below 3.60. One dollar was worth 3.5970 liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Monday, compared with 3.6250 at Friday's closing.
Meanwhile, the euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also dropped to 3.9030 early morning in Istanbul, compared with 3.9150 at last week's close.
Gold held at $1,258.35 an ounce.
