Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day on rise

BIST 100 index climbs over 1.2 percent, while U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stands at 5.2400

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 1.24 percent or 1,288.64 points to open at 105,478.09 points on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose by 0.09 percent to close the day at 104,189.45 points with a daily trading volume of 8.4 billion Turkish lira ($1.97 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.2400 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Wednesday's closing rate of 5.2820.

The euro/Turkish lira rate remained unchanged at 6.0370 compared to the last close. One British pound traded for 6.8940 Turkish lira, as the GBP/TRY rate was 6.9160 by market close on Wednesday.

The price of Brent oil dropped to around $62.09 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Thursday, versus $61.54 at the previous close.
