Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 107,528.68 points on Tuesday, up 0.64% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 107,196.64 points. As of the daily close, it rose over 680 points from Monday's close of 106,846.18 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the index hovered between 106,633.71 points and 107,769.77 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 730 billion Turkish liras ($127 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 9.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.7 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 59 stocks on the index rose, 32 were down.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, energy giant Tupras, and defense giant Aselsan.

Shares of food industry company Tukas Gida was the best performer on Tuesday, rising 6.73%, while stocks of conglomerate Metro Holding did the worst, losing 4.58%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,469.15 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,458.00at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $61.52 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday -- with a day range of $62.53 to $63.54.
