Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at closing session

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index, BIST 100, was up 917.72 points, or 0.84 percent to close at 110,247.89 points on Monday.

The trade volume was 6 billion Turkish liras ($1.56 billion) while the banking and holding sector indices increased by 0.72 and 0.52 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the mining sector index was the best performer with 6.16 percent while the chemical, petrol and plastic sector index fell the most -- 1.12 percent.

Stocks of mining company Koza (KOZAA) were the top gainer of the day -- with a 10.75 percent rise -- whereas a diesel engine and tractor manufacturer Tumosan Motor (TMSN),fell 2.46 percent -- the biggest drop on Friday.

The day's most traded stocks were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO), state lender Halkbank (HALKB), private lender Garanti (GARAN), Karabuk Kardemir (KRDMD) and mining company Koza (KOZAA).

BIST 100 index decreased 336.27 points, or 0.31 percent, to 109,330.17 at Friday's close with a total trading volume of 6.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.57 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira rate fell to 3.8400 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) on Monday, from 3.8710 at Friday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate also dropped to 4.5310, compared with last week's close of 4.5660.

The BIST Gold Exchange index gained 0.06 percent while a kilogram of gold traded at 155,800 Turkish liras ($40,562) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Monday, down from Friday's closing price of 156,450 Turkish liras ($40,731).

The price of Brent crude oil was $63.65 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Monday, compared with $63.31 at Friday's close.
