Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at midweek open

BIST 100 index rises some 239 points from Tuesday's close, US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stands around 5.26

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened on Wednesday up at 93,756.33 points, with 0.26 percent or 239.37 points hike.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 0.47 percent to close the day at 93,516.96 points with a daily trade volume of 6.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2650 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Tuesday's closing rate of 5.2330.

The euro/lira rate was 5.9520, versus 5.9380 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.7290 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.7170 by market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was $61.15 per barrel as of 10.30 a.m. local time (0730GMT) Wednesday.
