Turkey's crop production worth $37B in 2017: TurkStat
Figure marks 15 percent increase over previous year

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey produced crops worth of 135.2 billion Turkish liras ($37 billion) in 2017, a 15 percent rise over the previous year, the country's main statistics agency said Thursday.
Crop production includes growing of vegetables, cereals, fruits, and spices, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The value of cereals and other crop products increased by 19.6 percent to 55.5 billion liras ($15.2 billion), the value of fruits, beverage and spice crops also increased by 16.1 percent to 45.9 billion liras ($12.57 billion) and the value of vegetables increased by 6.8 percent to reach 33.8 billion liras ($9.26 billion) in 2017 when compared to 2016.
Prices of wheat, chickpea, sunflower, potato, rice, tomato, cucumber, pepper, olive, grapes, cherries, green tea, and lemon also went up.
Prices of lentil (red), onion (dry and fresh), garlic, apricot, and hazelnut decreased.
The price of chickpea saw the highest increase with 48.4 percent while the price of dry onion slipped the most with 25.7 percent.
