ANKARA (AA) - Turkish fighter jets have hit 12 PKK targets in northern Iraq on Tuesday, according to security sources.

The Turkish Armed Forces hit four targets in the Metina region of northern Iraq and in Cukurca, a district of Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari province, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Turkish jets bombed the Metina region between 10:48 p.m. - 10:55 p.m. local time (1948-1955GMT) and destroyed the targets.

Turkish warplanes also carried out airstrikes on eight PKK targets in Iraq's Hakurk region.

The source said Turkish fighter jets bombed the Hakurk region between 10.29 p.m. and 00.53 a.m local time (1929-2153GMT) and destroyed the targets.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists neutralized in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
