Turkish benchmark stocks index up at opening

BIST 100 index climbs 0.27%, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.70

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.27% or 239.38 points to open at 98,404.68 points Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged by 1.19% to close the day at 98,135.30 points with a daily trading volume of 6.35 billion Turkish liras ($1.12 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 5.6960 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), from Tuesday's closing rate of 5.6910.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was stable at 6.4230 compared to the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.4620 Turkish liras as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.4440 at market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $70.75 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
