ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar met Pakistan’s Defense Production Minister Zubaida Jalal as part of his visit to Islamabad, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry said Akar emphasized the necessity of acting together in the fight against terrorism, especially against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey.
Expressing satisfaction with the level of defense cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan, he underlined the importance of further enhancing the cooperation.
FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
Earlier, Akar held separate meetings with Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan and army chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa, among other officials.
