Hotels see rainwater harvesting as alternative source during dry seasons

By Masallah Dag

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish prefabricated building firm Karmod has completed rainwater harvesting storage tank projects for four hotels in the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya.

The company said Tuesday that production of the tanks, typically with capacities of 50–100 tons, was carried out based on hotel requests.

Selcuk Kaya, sales manager of Karmod Plastics Group, said the firm provides sustainable solutions across sectors from tourism to public services through its large-capacity rainwater harvesting tanks.

Kaya noted that shrinking usable water resources caused by global warming has increased the importance of capturing rainwater.
“The addition of spring months to the usual dry days in summer makes the conservation of water resources even more important,” he said.

“We are preparing additional resources by storing water with our rainwater harvesting tanks, which we produce specifically for underground and over ground use.”

He said Karmod ensures safe water storage during rainfall and can produce tanks ranging from 5,000 liters up to 100 tons in a single body.

By integrating these units, the firm can also create higher-capacity systems and install special compartments and pump-equipped machine rooms when needed, he added.

Kaya said hotel operators in Antalya increasingly view rainwater harvesting systems as essential.
"Hotel managers, who operate tourism facilities focused on uninterrupted service, consider rainwater harvesting storage tanks among their most important needs,” he said.

"That is why we have produced rainwater storage tanks for four separate hotels in Antalya during this period of preparation for the new season."

Demand is strongest for tanks between 50 and 100 tons, he said, adding that installations can be placed underground or in open areas depending on facility conditions.

"Water obtained from rain harvesting is generally considered as service water. It is also preferred for watering green areas," he said.
