ISTANBUL (AA) - A Turkish movie will depict real-life incidents of a rescue operation of Japanese citizens from Tehran during the Iran-Iraq War in 1985.
"Yuvaya Donus" (Return to Homeland), which is still being shot, will tell the story of 215 Japanese who were rescued on the orders of Turkey's then-President Turgut Ozal.
The movie will first be released in Japan and then Turkey in 2019.
Fatih Ozcan and Seyda Delibasi are the screenwriters for the film directed by Hakan Kursun.
The main reason for making this movie is to promote relations between Turkey and Japan, Erdal Guven, the producer of the movie told Anadolu Agency.
"We want to show Japanese what an important thing Turkey did in 1985," Guven added.
Japan has declared 2019 as the "Year of Turkey".
