Turkish parliament elects new ombudsman

Erdogan adviser appointed to head independent complaints office

ANKARA (AA) - An adviser to the Turkish president was elected parliamentary ombudsman on Tuesday.

Seref Malkoc, who served as Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s chief adviser from December 2015, was elected chief ombudsman by 300 votes in the 550-seat Grand National Assembly.

Malkoc, who was a lawmaker from 1996 to 2002, will head the independent complaints system attached to parliament.
