SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (AA) - With a strong array of motion pictures, Türkiye's public broadcaster TRT is competing in the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF), set to run until Friday.
Underlining that TRT greatly values the festival, the broadcaster's director for cinema, Faruk Guven, told Anadolu Agency that each year, the channel gave out a "TRT award" for works still in the project development phase.
"Excellent films have come out of this support. Three years ago, the documentary that we backed 'Honeyland,' competed for an Oscar in two categories," said Guven.
Noting that this was TRT's sixth year in the festival, he said these awards helped the broadcaster promote its brand both in Türkiye and abroad.
Triangle of Sadness, a TRT co-production by Ruben Ostlund that won the Palme d'Or award, had premiered at the opening of the 28th edition of the SFF, he pointed out.
This year, the festival features six films from Türkiye's TRT, including five co-productions and one award-winner.
In the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 235 films from 62 countries will be screened in 19 programs. Of these, 54 will have made their world debut.
In total, 51 movies will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo awards.
The festival began 28 years ago to again make the city a center of culture and art, as well as to help heal the memories of the Bosnian War in the 1990s.
Past festival attendees included luminaries such as Robert de Niro, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig, Orlando Bloom, John Malkovich, Gerard Depardieu, Morgan Freeman, and Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
