ISTANBUL (AA) – The Turkish state aid agency has provided advanced intensive care equipment to the Community Hospital in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, the agency announced Monday on US social media platform X.

The Mogadishu Community Hospital, which operates under the Somali Custodial Corps, has been equipped with state-of-the-art intensive care units supplied by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), according to the statement.

Under the project, respiratory support units, patient monitoring systems, and various other medical devices were delivered, while hospital staff received comprehensive training on the use of the new equipment.

The statement added that the newly established unit is expected to improve health care standards in the region and play a life-saving role, noting that Türkiye will continue to share its institutional capacity in the health sector with Somalia.

Somalia and Türkiye developed their close friendship in 2011 after Turkish President Erdogan (then prime minister) paid a visit to the country, the first non-African leader to do so in over 20 years.

Since then, Turkish humanitarian and technical development assistance to Somalia has topped $1 billion, including projects in areas such as health, education, municipal services, and infrastructure.
