Turkish stock exchange closes Monday in the red

Benchmark BIST 100 index drops 132.98 points at closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed the first trading day of the week at 10,225.48 points, down 1.28% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, after starting the day at 10,358.61, fell 132.98 points from the close on Friday.

The lowest point for the index during the day was 10,225.48, while the daily high was 10,358.61.

As many as 73 indexes lost in value, while 26 closed the day with gains.

The total transaction volume reached 88.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.4 trillion liras ($235.1 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 40.2335 as of 6.20 pm local time (1520GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 47.0040, and the GBP/TRY traded at 54.1035.

The price of gold was $3,345.95 per ounce, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $68.80.
