Turkish stock exchange closes Tuesday in the red

Benchmark BIST 100 index down 109.48 points at closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 9,998.20 points, down 1.08% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, after starting the day at 10,173.73, fell 109.48 points from the close on Monday.

The lowest point for the index during the day was 9,957.84, while the daily high was 10,203.58.

As many as 74 indexes lost in value, while 23 closed the day with gains.

The total transaction volume reached 99.9 billion Turkish liras ($2.5 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.2 trillion liras ($230.7 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 40.0250 as of 6.20 pm local time (1520GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 46.9035, and the GBP/TRY traded at 54.3605.

The price of gold was $3,294.90 per ounce, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $69.50.
