Turkish stock exchange down at closing

Benchmark BIST 100 index drops around 72 points

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 9,982.28 points, down by 0.72% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index started the day at 10,038.19 points, falling 71.92 points from Monday's close.

The lowest value of the index for the day was 9,950.89, while its daily high was 10,109.96.

While 25 indices dropped during the day, 74 indices gained value.

The total transaction volume reached 94 billion Turkish liras ($2.78 billion), while the overall value of the index was 8.4 trillion liras ($249.99 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 33.8425 as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 37.6640, and the GBP/TRY traded at 44.1510.

The price of an ounce of gold was $2,511.91, while a barrel price of Brent oil was around $76.70.
