Turkish stock exchange down at midweek close

ANKARA (AA) - Türkiye's benchmark stock index fell 1.24% to close Wednesday at 5,360.77 points.

Starting the day at 5,437.14 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 68.28 points compared to the previous close.

The index's lowest value during the day was 5,322.01, while its daily high was 5,490.89.

The total market value of BIST 100 was around 4.4 trillion Turkish liras ($188.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 87 billion Turkish liras ($3.7 billion).

The price of an ounce of gold was $1,970.15, while Brent crude oil sold for around $73.77 per barrel as of 6.45 p.m. local time (1545GMT).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 23.5736 and the euro/lira exchange rate was 25.5939, while the British pound traded at 29.9275 liras.
