Turkish stocks down at close
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closes 0.83 pct lower; lira loses against US dollar
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index was down 0.83 percent at the close of the daily session on Thursday, Oct. 27.
The BIST 100 index fell 658.77 points to close at 78,739.17. The total trading volume of the country's stock exchange market was 3 billion Turkish liras (approx. $968 million).
On the fourth day of the week, the banking sector index was down 1.28 percent while the holding sector index fell 0.99 percent.
The mining sector index, on the other hand, was up 2.40 percent.
The most heavily traded stocks were private lender Garanti Bank, Turkish Airlines, private bank Akbank, sports club Galatasaray, and state lender Halkbank.
Energy company Ipek's shares were the top percent gainer with an increase of 5.99 percent in value, while Galatasaray was the top percent loser as its shares fell 6.67 percent.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index was flat with gold trading at 126,640 Turkish liras (some $40,881) per kilogram.
The Turkish lira lost value against the U.S. dollar to trade at 3.1030 compared to Wednesday's closing rate of 3.0850.
On Friday, Turkey's stock exchange market will be open until noon (0900GMT) due to the upcoming Republic Day on Saturday, which is an official holiday. Investors are expected to monitor the growth figures of the US economy set to be revealed Friday.
