Turkish stocks down at close
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closes 1.55 percent lower; lira loses against US dollar
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index was down 1.55 percent at the close of the daily session Friday.
The BIST 100 index fell 1,186.19 points to close at 75,174.17. The total trading volume of the country's stock exchange market was 3.7 billion Turkish liras (approx. $1.13 billion).
On the last trading day of the week, the banking sector and holding sector indices declined 2.05 and 1.39 percent, respectively.
Among sector indices, the tourism index rose the most -- by 2.32 percent -- while the largest drop was seen in the wholesale and retail trade index, which fell 3.24 percent.
The most heavily traded stocks were lenders Garanti Bank, Halkbank, Akbank, Turkiye Is Bankasi, and national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines.
Shares of Park Elektrik were the top percent gainer with an increase of 4.07 percent in value, while Gozde Investment, part of Turkish food giant Ulker, was the top percent loser as its shares were down 5.07 percent.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index declined 1.58 percent in value, with gold trading at 131,700 Turkish liras (some $40,490) per kilogram.
The Turkish lira continued to lose value against the U.S. dollar to trade at 3.2550 compared to Thursday's closing rate of 3.2350.
Analysts said investors would follow Fed chair Janet Yellen's speech, the U.S. industrial production and inflation figures plus growth performance of the Eurozone set to be revealed next week.
Borsa Istanbul's trading hours will be changed as of Monday, Nov. 14. The opening session will start at 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT), while trading will end at 6 p.m. (1500GMT).
