Turkish stocks down at Monday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 3.88% to 1,144.45 points.

After starting the week at 1,182.45 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 46.18 points from 1,190.63 points at Friday's close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,141.58 and 1,183.61 points -- nine stocks on the index rose and 90 fell compared to the previous close.

Ending the day with a market value of some 843 billion Turkish liras ($106 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 25.9 billion Turkish liras ($3.2 billion).

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,888.00 by market close, down from $1,909.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40.74 per barrel as of 6:15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Monday.
