Turkish stocks down on opening

ANKARA (AA) – Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was down Friday and opened at 75,805.47 points.

The index was down 875.90 points, or 1.14 percent, after the third transaction of the day. The banking and holding sector indices advanced by 1.29 and 1.67 percent respectively.

Among the sector indices, the leasing and factoring sector index -- the only sector in positive territory -- advanced by 0.09 percent, while the construction sector fell the most, down 1.96 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate, which was at 3.1080 by the time markets closed on Thursday, opened at 3.1260 on Friday, a change of 0.5 percent.
