Turkish stocks flat at open

BIST 100 index increases by 0.04 percent; US dollar/Turkish lira rate stands at around 3.53

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark index started the day with a 40.47-point increase to stand at 94,396.38 points on Wednesday.

On the third transaction day of the week, the BIST 100 index increased by 0.04 percent.

The banking sector index went up 0.07 percent while the holding sector index was down by 0.14 percent.

Among all sectors, the insurance sector index was the best performer -- up 0.66 percent -- while the leasing and factoring index started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.34 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 3.5300 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared with 3.5400 at Tuesday’s close.

On Wednesday, Turkey's annual inflation rate was 11.87 percent in April, according to Turkish Statistical Institute.

The BIST 100 was down 299.40 points at Tuesday's close, reaching 94,355.91 points with a total trading volume of 4.5 billion Turkish liras (more than $1.2 billion).
