Turkish stocks surge 1.94% at midweek close

BIST 100 index rises nearly 1,900 points from previous close, Turkish lira gains ground

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day up 1.94% to close at 99,785.16 points on Wednesday.

Starting the day at 98,799.33 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index increased 1,898.8 points from 97,886.36 points at Tuesday's close.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,490.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,486.40 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $60.28 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday -- with a day range of $58.86 to $60.38.
