ANKARA (AA) - The Istanbul Technical University (ITU) is reaching out to countries in Africa in order to share research and expertise, its rector said on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Professor Mehmet Karaca said that delegations from the university had visited Djibouti in 2016 and signed a memorandum of understanding.
“We have begun a project with Djibouti, and are hoping to reach an agreement with Rwanda, Senegal, Morocco and Tunisia,” he said.
Karaca said that the ITU has students from several African countries including Congo, Kenya, Morocco and Ethiopia. “These students prefer admission in the departments of electronics and communication, computer science, architecture, and oil and natural gas engineering," he added.
In his remarks, the rector also highlighted serious demand for engineering and architecture education in Africa.
The ITU, which he said follows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's vision for Africa, plans to expand to further countries in the continent.
