ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye and Egypt aim to raise agricultural productivity by increasing agricultural trade, cooperating on increased investments and technology transfers.

Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met in the Turkish capital on Wednesday for a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting.

The two countries inked a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in growing and researching drought-resistant types of cereal crops, and producing vegetable seeds and fruit saplings, in addition to climate issues, such as drought, global temperature rises, water scarcity, and more.

The meeting focused on increasing Türkiye’s trade volume with Egypt to $15 billion within five years, and expanding the bilateral trade to include agricultural products.

Last year, Türkiye’s exports to Egypt totaled $3 billion, and imports to Türkiye from Egypt reached $3.1 billion in the same period.
