Türkiye establishes tourism office in historical region of Paraguay

Boosting bilateral ties: Türkiye and Paraguay forge stronger bonds through joint tourism venture

ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye's state-run aid agency on Friday opened a tourism office at the Jesuit ruins of Paraguay.

The Tourist Information and Handicrafts Sales Office was established by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) at the historical area, Ruins of Jesús de Tavarangue, which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in Paraguay, the agency said in a statement.

Paraguay Tourism Minister Sofia Montiel de Afara, Turkey's Ambassador to Asuncion Serhat Aksen and TIKA officials attended the opening program of the office.

Afara said in the opening speech that the historical region is very important for Paraguay.

She thanked Türkiye, the Asuncion Embassy and TIKA for their support.
Turkish ambassador Aksen said that Türkiye sees Paraguay as a friendly partner in Latin America and that they are trying to support this country in various fields.

Aksen noted that TIKA has carried out many projects, primarily education and health and TIKA's field of activity has been expanded with the project of tourism.

The ambassador also voiced hope on Türkiye and Paraguay will continue to strengthen their relations in the field of tourism, handicraft exhibition and sale in the future.
