EDIRNE, ANKARA, Türkiye (AA) – A total of 32 suspected members of the PKK terror group and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) were arrested while trying to flee to Greece through Türkiye's northwestern border over the past week, security sources said on Friday.
Some 23 suspects were detained in a prohibited zone in Türkiye’s Edirne province, said the sources, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Turkish security forces captured another nine people attempting to cross the borders of Greece and Türkiye through illegal means, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said in a separate statement.
The Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup, which left 253 people dead and 2,734 injured.
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions; particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
