NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) – Turkish diplomats and citizens in Kenya on Saturday marked the Democracy and National Unity Day, remembering the Turkish people who sacrificed their lives to defeat the July 15, 2016 coup.
In the capital Nairobi, Turkish diplomats paid tribute to those who defeated the coup by unveiling the July 15 Memorial Park-Kids Playground at a famous arboretum park.
According to the Turkish Embassy in Nairobi, the initiative aims to provide a space for children to enjoy recreational activities while also honoring the sacrifices made for democracy by the Turkish people.
The new playground was inaugurated amid a gathering of officials, dignitaries, and members of the local community.
Benjamin Kinyili, an official from the Kenya Forest Service, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the lives of Kenyan children.
“We are thrilled to have the 15th July Memorial Park-Kids Playground established within the arboretum park. The park already attracts approximately 9,000 children each month, and with this addition, they will now be able to enjoy the free services and facilities generously provided by Türkiye,” said Kinyili.
The playground is designed to offer a wide range of recreational activities, including play structures, swings, slides, and other interactive installations.
The serene surroundings of the arboretum park provide an ideal setting for children to engage in physical activities, socialize, and create lasting memories.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Turkish Ambassador to Kenya Subutay Yuksel expressed his gratitude to the Kenyan government and people for their support in making the project a reality.
“This playground stands as a testament to the courage and resilience of our martyrs and veterans. We are sincerely thankful to the Kenyan government and its people for their support and cooperation throughout this endeavor,” Yuksel stated.
The July 15 Memorial Park-Kids Playground represents the strong bonds of friendship between Türkiye and Kenya, as well as their shared values of freedom and unity.
The inauguration ceremony started and concluded with a moment of silence in honor of the fallen heroes, followed by joyful laughter and enthusiasm from children playing at the newly established playground.
